Winterguard  2012 - 2013

Mills E. Godwin Winterguard is an Indoor Colorguard unit that competes in the Atlantic Indoor Association ( AIA ). The season begins with practices around the  end of November, with competitions beginning in February, and ends in early April at Championships. Members of the Winterguard participate in tryouts and practice frequently to prepare for performances. Each year the Winterguard has a theme and they compete in five to six competitions in Virginia and North Carolina. The Mills E. Godwin Winterguard received Silver Medals in 2010 and then received Gold Medals in 2012 in their  Division, Scholastic A3.

The Director / Instructor, Mr. Carey Mitchell, teaches the team the routine ( which includes music, choreography, and theater ) for the flags, rifles, sabers, and other props as needed. The Winterguard members' parents play a huge role in helping to chaperon at practices and performances, preparing the props in the show, and transport the students to practices and performances. The competition schedule and more information about the Atlantic Indoor Association can be found at www.atlanticindoor.org
